General

This procedure calculates the temperature difference and the heat transfer coefficient for a plate cooled by natural convection. The plate is assumed to be isothermal. If there are discrete heat sources the result can be used in the Convection Cooled Plate with Sources applet.

Inputs

Height
Is the height of the plate.

Width
Is the width of the plate.

Emissivity
Is emissivity of the plate.
Emissivity values for metals.
Emissivity values for common materials.

Air temp
Is the inlet air temperature.

Diss start
Is the start value for the heat dissipation.

Diss end
Is the end value for the heat dissipation.

Include radiation
If include radiation is selected it is assumed that the plate radiates into a large room with walls that have the same temperature as the air.

Pressure and altitude
These two inputs are mutually dependent. On cursor exit from one input the other is updated. The allowed altitude range is 0 - 11000 m.

Edit options
